About

Nia Robertson grew up on a dairy farm in country Tasmania with country music loving parents on a healthy diet of all the Slims (Dusty, Whitman and Newton), Tammy, Dolly, and she was singing as soon as she could talk. During her school years in Hobart, she played the flute, was a member of the choir and later enjoyed musical theatre.

Nia spent the 80s embracing the healthy live music scene and fronted an original rock band. A big move to Sydney and a marriage in 1990, was followed by a move to Adelaide before finally settling in Melbourne. After serious health complications during the birth of her son, Nia realised she needed to return to music more than ever and started to write as a form of therapy. Returning to her country-girl roots Nia began working on what would become her debut album, “Middle Of Blue”, released in June 2010.

In 2011 Nia attended her first Tamworth Country Music Festival where she was awarded the title of Most Popular Rising Star at the Meet ‘n’ Greet Country Awards.

Returning to the festival in 2012 and again in 2013, the Melbourne-based artist released her 2nd album, “The Woman I Am” on Friday January 25th. The latest offering features nine brand new self-penned tracks and two surprise covers. Produced locally by her partner, William McMartin of Beyond Therapy Productions, this collection of self-penned songs are all very personal accounts of her life or of those closest to her.

The first single, ‘Sleeping With The TV On’ was released to radio in December 2012 via CRS #162, is a narrative of sleepless nights and loneliness, something Nia knows first-hand after spending 10 years as a single mother.

Nia also has a growing reputation for supporting song writing and storytelling amongst her peers, with the increasingly successful "Nia Robertson Presents Storytellers" fast becoming a favourite performance for artists at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.  These shows provide a showcase for songwriting and songwriters to be heard, away from the general chaos of the festival, in an intimate and comfortable atmosphere.

Continuing the supportive theme, Nia and her partner also conduct house concerts for visiting artists several times throughout the year, with artists such as Sally Anne Whitten, Rose Carleo, The Harmonators, Allan Caswell, Stuie and Camille French in previous concerts, and Alby Pool, Chad Morgan, Rod Dowsett scheduled for 2014 already!
